Ingredients
- SAUCE:
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 2 tsp water
- 2 tsp vegetable oil
- 2 cloves minced garlic
- ½ tsp grated ginger
- ½ tsp chili flakes
- ⅓ C unseasoned rice vinegar
- ½ C water
- ½ C agave nectar (or maple syrup, sugar, etc)
- 2 Tbsp tomato paste
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- ¼ tsp sea salt TOFU:
- 1 block
- 3 C vegetable oil for frying
- 1 C brown rice flour
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- ½ tsp sea salt
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
- 1 C cold soda water (or sprite, beer etc) WHITE RICE FOR SIDE
Instructions
- Make white rice ---
- Cut tofu and let drain ---
- Mix cornstarch & water into slurry, set aside ---
- Heat 2 tsp. oil in pan over low/med
- Add garlic, ginger, chili flakes, cook 1 min
- Add rest of sauce ingredients
- Whisk in slurry, stir until thick ---
- Heat lots of veg oil for frying
- In bowl mix together flour, corn starch, sea salt, garlic powder, pepper
- When oil is hot, add soda water
- Dunk in tofu chunks to coat, fry in oil
- Once fried, cover tofu with sauce
