Crispy Orange Sweet & Sour Tofu

Ingredients

    SAUCE:
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp water
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • ½ tsp grated ginger
  • ½ tsp chili flakes
  • ⅓ C unseasoned rice vinegar
  • ½ C water
  • ½ C agave nectar (or maple syrup, sugar, etc)
  • 2 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • ¼ tsp sea salt

  • TOFU:
  • 1 block
  • 3 C vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 C brown rice flour
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 C cold soda water (or sprite, beer etc)

  • WHITE RICE FOR SIDE

Instructions

  1. make white rice
  2. ---
  3. cut tofu and let drain
  4. ---
  5. mix cornstarch & water into slurry, set aside
  6. ---
  7. heat 2 tsp. oil in pan over low/med
  8. add garlic, ginger, chili flakes, cook 1 min
  9. add rest of sauce ingredients
  10. whisk in slurry, stir until thick
  11. ---
  12. heat lots of veg oil for frying
  13. in bowl mix together flour, corn starch, sea salt, garlic powder, pepper
  14. when oil is hot, add soda water
  15. dunk in tofu chunks to coat, fry in oil
  16. once fried, cover tofu with sauce
